The Little White Chapel in Vegas

Quick disclosure, many years ago I had worked for the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas.
I was their head photographer for a while until I moved onto a different chapel. I remember my first I was their head photographer for a while, until I moved onto a different chapel. I remember my first time at the Little White - it was a summer elopement in 2007, this couple from upstate New York had brought me with them as their Photographer. While I was in the chapel I met Lorenzo - their head photographer then. I also met Roseanne, the legendary wedding coordinator coordinator.

I joked around with them for a little bit about hiring me as their photographer. Before I left, Lorenzo had already decided he wants me back for an interview the next day. And the day following that, he introduced me to Charlotte Richards - the owner of the Little White. And she said I can start this Saturday. And this was the beginning of my career at this very unique cottage Industry - Vegas wedding chapels.

Since then, I've counted well over 9500 couples instead of photographed. The math is easy: we can easily do 10 to 15 weddings in one shift at the Little White. Extrapolating the days I've worked, slow days, vacation days and the years I was with them, not to mention the time that I spent at Chapel Of Flowers - I was surprised to get to this number too. I made this calculation seven years ago.

Fast forward to today: I am now running my own business as a professional photographer - specializing in elopement and weddings. My last count is that I've been doing this for 17 years. Now photographing at The Little White after all these years brings on its own a lot of feelings for me. It's like muscle memory when I go into that place. And it also feels like a playground that I have outgrown. But it doesn't mean that I don't enjoy going there - quite the contrary. Every corner, every mirror, every door has a feeling and a face I can associate with. I remember fondly the nights I've spent there getting to know the ministers and coordinators. The exciting and boring ones. The legendary days and the tragic ones.

I'm glad that I still have a great relationship with the Chapel and his new owners. I've worked and operated in other chapels, but I know for a fact that whether they love or hate the Little White - they all wanna be like her. The Lil White has set the standard - and her legendary resume speaks for herself.

Las Vegas Elopement Photography

9/18/2023

Elopements are all the rage now. There are countless numbers of tiktok videos that show the classic Vegas experience - the limo the wedding chapel - a photoshoot on the Strip and downtown Las Vegas. A trip to the Neon Boneyard.; night time shoot along Las Vegas boulevard, grabbing a drink at a dive bar on Main Street. It can be the adventure you've always dreamed about.

As a veteran photographer in Las Vegas, I've seen so much evolve. One special place that's close to my heart is The Little White Chapel. If you are looking for peak Vegas - there's nothing that comes close. The old chapel that has been standing in the same location for almost 100 years have been serving up weddings way before the Bellagio or Ceasars Palace we're household names in the Vegas Zeitgeist.

As the image of elopements evolved through the times, photography has changed with it. I started in the industry as a photographer at the Little White. I was with a team of a half a dozen photographers who provided ceremony and 10 minute photoshoots of couples who are there for a less expensive, super quick ceremony. For the longest time, drive through weddings, gazebo weddings and hotel room suites were the wedding packages that the chapel sold.. Nowadays, its not unusual to see multiple Convertible Pink Cadillac weddings in one hour, If you hang out long enough at the Little White, especially on a Saturday, you'll see how busy the place gets. As limo after limo, party bus after party bus unload wedding parties to get checked in and married, you'll see photographers of all persuasions running alongside them.

Together with a handful of other professional photographers who are still in business, I have had a unique view of the recent history of the Little White Chapel. We have shot as in house photographers at the chapel under Ms Charlotte Richards (the legendary queen of Vegas Weddings), some of has have truly lived through the Vegas wedding scene. A few of us have moved on to other chapels and companies, and some of us have kept on keeping on as independent photographers! Some have become amazingly successful! Look up my friend Gabby J Photography when you get the chance. We all have created our own different styles, flavor, look - whatever you may call it.

The main thing that's important for me, as a photographer, before how the photos look, is the experience of my couple. I have to admit, being a 40+ year old Filipino, I do not look like the typical vegas photographer you see on social media (petite female with a unique hat). I can, however, put my experience up against anyone at this point. I am pretty confident that my years in service and my portfolio can help a couple not second guess why they should have me shoot for them.

Once my couple has gotten over the part where their photographer isn't the text book photog for their elopement, they soon realize that having fun, and being comfortable during the shoot is as important as the photography itself. I would normally find time to go over my philosophy through a spiel that explains the basics of what my couples needs to do as a baseline and how we can build on that through the shoot. This makes the whole time unique and not feel canned at all.

Elopements, as much it has evolved has some aspects to it that has not changed. The couples want to have an experience all their own. Without the hassle of a big production number of a giant wedding, but with the excitement that rivals the feeling of seeing the Vegas lights as you land that first time into town. As photographers, we are not just guides for the couple during the time they have us. We are also the ones who's brains they can pick while their planning their Vegas wedding..

I tell all my couples: I want you to have fun and enjoy every single moment. This is selfish for my part, because I know that if you are having fun and are relaxed and are enjoying the company of your partner, the photos will always look great - and you will want to always look at those images, not just because it looks like a great photos, but because they remind you of a feeling from a moment, from that day you elopend in Vegas.

Hiring a professional wedding photographer is an essential aspect of planning a wedding, and when it comes to capturing those precious moments, the importance of hiring a veteran professional cannot be overstated. Wedding photographs serve as timeless keepsakes that preserve the memories, emotions, and intricate details of your special day. A skilled and experienced wedding photographer, especially one with a background as a veteran, brings a unique set of qualities and expertise to the table that can make all the difference in ensuring your wedding memories are beautifully documented. Here are some key reasons why hiring a veteran professional wedding photographer is of utmost importance.
  1. Experience and Expertise: A veteran professional photographer has likely covered numerous weddings throughout their career. Their experience grants them a deep understanding of the dynamics of a wedding day, allowing them to anticipate and capture all the significant moments. They possess the technical skills to navigate various lighting conditions, compose stunning shots, and capture the essence of the event. Their expertise ensures that every precious moment is captured flawlessly, from the exchange of vows to the first dance and everything in between.
  2. Attention to Detail: Weddings are filled with countless details that contribute to the overall ambiance and beauty of the day. A veteran professional photographer has an eye for detail and can capture all the intricate elements that make your wedding unique. From the carefully arranged centerpieces to the delicate lace on the wedding gown, they have the ability to document even the smallest details that you might have overlooked amidst the excitement of the day. These photographs become cherished reminders of the thought and effort that went into creating your dream wedding.
  3. Emotional Sensitivity: A wedding is an emotional rollercoaster, filled with joy, laughter, tears, and heartfelt moments. A veteran professional photographer understands the significance of these emotions and knows how to capture them authentically. They have the ability to blend into the background, allowing natural moments to unfold, and capturing genuine expressions of love and happiness. Their experience enables them to navigate sensitive situations with tact and discretion, ensuring that the emotions of the day are preserved in a respectful manner.
  4. Problem-solving Skills: Weddings can present unexpected challenges, such as inclement weather, difficult lighting conditions, or last-minute changes to the schedule. A veteran professional photographer is accustomed to adapting to unforeseen circumstances and can quickly think on their feet. They have the skills and equipment to handle various situations, ensuring that they can deliver high-quality photographs regardless of the challenges that may arise. Their ability to problem-solve ensures that you can relax and enjoy your day, knowing that your memories are in capable hands.

They will arrive on time, fully prepared, and equipped with backup plans to address any unforeseen issues. Their professionalism extends beyond the wedding day, as they meticulously edit and deliver your final photographs, ensuring that you receive a polished and timeless collection of images.
In conclusion, hiring a veteran professional wedding photographer is a decision that can significantly impact the quality and longevity of your wedding memories. Their experience, expertise, attention to detail, emotional sensitivity, problem-solving skills, and professionalism make them invaluable assets to your special day. By entrusting your wedding photography to a veteran professional, you can rest assured that you will have a stunning collection of photographs that beautifully encapsulate the essence and emotions of your wedding, allowing you to relive those cherished moments for years to come.

It wasn't very difficult to find those little moments that we can use for the highlights. Roy and Kelsey's wedding was just full of it from start to finish. Between the little girls running around, the preparation, the very personal ceremony and the way Roy looks at Kelsey - they made our jobs very easy.

Amir & Liya

The first time I met Liya, we were both enthusiastic undergrads just looking for the next great adventure with some great new people. Almost 20 years later, I find myself partying with her, her family and her new husband in California.

She's one of the few people who I've climbed mountains with in college. We spent some great nights in weird situations that included chickens, cliffs, curfews, utilizing swimming pools in manners not usually suggested... I am blessed to have kept her friendship and even more blessed to be there to tell the story of her big day with Amir.

I wish them both nothing but the best. I know in my heart that they will keep each other smiling.

Off Site Photo Sessions

8/11/2017

Comments

May wedding chapels on the strip provide off site photos sessions. These are photos sessions done outside of the chapel property. They include shoots along Las Vegas Boulevard with the iconic skyline of the Strip in the background, shoots around downtown Las Vegas and the Welcome to Las Vegas sign and shoots around town like Valley of Fire and Nelsons Landing Ghost town area.

The packages include copyrights to a set number of photos. There's also an option to buy all the images after the photos are proofed on delivery.

I have shot on the strip many times and have found multiple locations that everyone enjoys having photos done at. I've also shot for both The Little White Chapel and The Chapel of Flowers in the past 10 years so I've had the opportunity with a large volume of work on the Strip and around the city.

My favorite shoots are around Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire. Please let me know if you have a new locations in mind so we can personalize your shoot for you!
